The August issue of my Personal Strategy Compass newsletter is now available: The Night Watchman: Converting Solitary Anxiety into Strategic Leverage.”

This issue grew out of something I started noticing in my own solitary planning blocks. Once I removed the usual operational noise and created some real white space, my analytical mind did not automatically become more strategic. It simply found a different assignment: auditing risks, replaying friction points, and keeping familiar worries illuminated.

That led me to a distinction I think is useful. Strategic reflection should help us settle questions and create choices. Anxiety has a different job description. It prefers to keep the questions open.

The new issue looks at how to tell when strategic reflection has quietly turned into uncompensated night-watchman duty, and how to get off duty.

Personal Strategy Compass is where I’ve been working through these kinds of questions about Personal Quarterly Offsites, strategic attention, and how we use the limited capacity we actually have.
